Great Strides In College Station

Breathe Hope was privileged to host Great Strides, one of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s most recognized fundraisers. In cities all across the United States, tens of thousands of people gather together to show their commitment to “adding tomorrows everyday” to the lives of those with cystic fibrosis through the simple act of walking. Since the first Great Strides walk in 1989, more than $180 million has been raised to support the vital research and care programs of the CF Foundation. Due the nature of our campus, Great Strides was modified to 5K Run/ Walk. This year over 200 participants joined our efforts towards finding a cure. In conjunction with corporate sponsorship, Great Strides was made possible through an individualized letter writing campaign. Breathe Hope would like to express our gratitude to our friends and family that donated. Breathe Hope was able to give the Foundation a check for $14,278. The pending date for the next Great Strides will be based on Texas A&M’s 2008 football schedule.

Texas Children's Hospital Last year many of our members had the privilege of visiting Cystic Fibrosis patients at Texas Children’s Hospital. We took toys and books and spent some time with these amazingly resilient kids. Our members enjoyed the opportunity to see firsthand how our organization impacts the lives of these children. It puts things into perspective when you witness the struggles CF patients endure each day. As college students our health is something we tend to take for granted. Thank you to all the wonderful kids at Texas Children’s for sharing your lives with us.

Campus Awareness One day per semester you will find our members in Rudder Fountain decorated with posters and dressed in our colors of blue and yellow trying to bring awareness to this important disease. We try to catch the attention of passing students by passing out water, candy, and sudoku’s with facts and information about Cystic Fibrosis, a cause we feel strongly about.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-Gulf Chapter Since 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure. Thanks to the dedication and financial backing of our supporters--patients, families and friends, clinicians, researchers, volunteers, individual donors, corporations and staff, we are making a difference.
